Target Information
The D(1A) dopamine receptor is a type of dopamine receptor whose function involves G proteins that stimulate adenylyl cyclase. These D1A receptors are a subtype of dopamine D1 receptors and are primarily found in the striatum of the brain, particularly in neurons linked to the direct pathway. By activating adenylate cyclase, these receptors boost the production of intracellular cAMP, which in turn enhances neuronal excitability and activity. Mice that lack D1A receptors (D1A-/-) exhibit notable behavioral alterations. For instance, in D1A-/- mice, D1A receptor binding is absent in the striatum, and dopamine-related substances like substance P, typically expressed in the striatum, are significantly diminished.
