Target Information
Dihydropyrimidinase-related protein 2 is involved in neuronal development and polarity, as well as in axon growth and guidance, neuronal growth cone collapse, and cell migration. It is essential for signaling by class 3 semaphorins and the subsequent remodeling of the cytoskeleton, and it may also play a role in endocytosis. DPYSL2, also known as CRMP2, is a crucial protein in the central nervous system, significantly contributing to axon growth, synapse formation, and neural development. Mutations or loss of function in the DPYSL2 gene are linked to various neurodevelopmental disorders. For instance, the absence of DPYSL2 in mice leads to autism spectrum disorder (ASD)-like phenotypes, such as defective neuronal pruning and insufficient synaptic elimination in the granule cells of the dentate gyrus.
