Target Information
Dentin matrix acidic phosphoprotein 1 (DMP1) appears to play a dual role in osteoblast differentiation. In its unphosphorylated form, DMP1 resides in the nucleus of undifferentiated osteoblasts, where it acts as a transcriptional component to activate osteoblast-specific genes, such as osteocalcin. As osteoblasts transition to osteocytes, DMP1 becomes phosphorylated and is transported to the extracellular matrix, where it regulates the nucleation of hydroxyapatite. Research has demonstrated that DMP1 prevents alterations in osteocytes, elevations in FGF23, and left ventricular hypertrophy in mice with chronic kidney disease.
