Target Information

Cyclophilin D (CypD) is a mitochondrial enzyme known as a peptidyl-prolyl cis-trans isomerase that plays a crucial role in controlling the mitochondrial permeability transition pore (PTP). The PTP is a non-specific channel that, when opened, can result in cell death. This process is associated with ischemia/reperfusion injuries across various organs, neurodegenerative diseases, and muscular dystrophies. Studies have demonstrated that mice lacking Cyclophilin D do not accumulate succinate during cardiac ischemia. CypD-deficient mice exhibit a higher propensity for myocardial fibrosis and heart failure under conditions of cardiac stress.
