Target Information
Connective Tissue Growth Factor, also known as CCN family member 2, is a primary connective tissue mitogen secreted by vascular endothelial cells. It promotes the proliferation and differentiation of chondrocytes and mediates heparin- and divalent cation-dependent cell adhesion among various cell types, including fibroblasts, myofibroblasts, and endothelial and epithelial cells. In mice, CTGF has diverse functions such as promoting tissue repair, inducing fibrosis, participating in angiogenesis, and regulating bone development. When the CTGF gene is knocked out, the rate of corneal epithelial re-epithelialization decreases significantly (by 40%), indicating that CTGF is essential for corneal wound healing.
