Target Information

In mice, the primary function of Complement C3 Convertase is to activate the complement system, which plays a crucial role in the immune response. The complement system is vital for immune surveillance and the maintenance of homeostasis, with C3 convertase being a core component. This key enzyme in the complement activation process catalyzes the cleavage of C3 into C3a and C3b. The C3b product is essential as it binds to the surface of antigens or pathogens, forming immune complexes that enhance phagocytosis and trigger inflammatory responses. C3 convertase operates in both the classical and alternative pathways of the complement system: it is composed of C4b2a in the classical pathway and of C3bBb in the alternative pathway.
