Target Information

Granulocyte/macrophage colony-stimulating factors are cytokines involved in hematopoiesis. They regulate the production, differentiation, and function of two related white blood cell types: granulocytes and monocytes-macrophages. Granulocyte colony-stimulating factor (G-CSF) specifically stimulates the production of granulocytes. In mice, G-CSF is crucial for generating and mobilizing granulocytes, regulating immune responses, and responding to emergencies. It plays a vital role in immune defense. Mice deficient in G-CSF suffer from chronic neutropenia, significantly reducing their resistance to bacterial infections, such as those caused by Listeria.
