Mice deficient in Col6a2 display reduced bone volume, expanded bone marrow spaces, and irregular chondrocyte differentiation. In oral tissues, type VI collagen aids in the regulation of alveolar bone biomineralization. Col6a2 knockout mice experience decreased alveolar bone volume, increased mineralization density, and bone loss due to periodontitis.
