Target Information
Collagen triple helix repeat-containing protein 1 (Cthrc1) may serve as a negative regulator of collagen matrix deposition. It acts as a positive regulator in bone-forming cells, promoting osteoblast differentiation and proliferation, thereby enhancing bone formation. For instance, Cthrc1 knockout mice show reduced bone mass, fewer trabeculae, and a lower bone formation rate. Conversely, Cthrc1 transgenic mice display increased bone mass, indicating Cthrc1's crucial role in bone formation. Additionally, Cthrc1 is expressed in the liver and skeletal muscle, where it plays a role in regulating lipid and glycogen storage. Cthrc1 knockout mice experience liver fat accumulation and elevated glycogen levels in skeletal muscle, yet maintain normal blood glucose levels, suggesting that Cthrc1 may regulate metabolic pathways.
