Target Information
Factor XII is a serum glycoprotein involved in initiating blood coagulation, fibrinolysis, and the generation of bradykinin and angiotensin. It cleaves prekallikrein to form kallikrein, which, in turn, cleaves Factor XII to alpha-factor XIIa, followed by trypsin cleaving it to beta-factor XIIa. Alpha-factor XIIa then activates factor XI to factor XIa. In mice, FXII has complex and diverse functions, playing crucial roles in thrombosis and inflammatory responses, with potential applications in anticoagulant therapy. However, its impact on normal hemostasis is relatively minor.
