Target Information
CD8 is a cell surface glycoprotein that interacts with MHC class I molecules and is crucial for the function of restricted T cells, such as CD8+ T cells. Research has demonstrated that the cytoplasmic domain of the CD8α chain is involved in signal transduction through its interaction with p56lck, impacting the development and maturation of T cells. For instance, in mice lacking CD8α, while the number of CD8+ T cells is reduced, their function remains intact. Additionally, the CD8β chain significantly influences Lck kinase activity, further regulating T cell development. CD8+ T cells are essential in immune responses, including antiviral and anti-tumor activities. For example, in mice infected with adenovirus type 1, CD8+ T cells help clear the virus, whereas mice deficient in CD8α exhibit higher viral loads.
