Target Information

In mice, Chromogranin B is crucial for the formation of secretory vesicles and the regulation of hormone secretion. While its involvement in hormone synthesis and vesicle biogenesis is minimal, its regulatory role in the secretory process is vital, particularly for the dynamic regulation of hormone release and the proper functioning of neuroendocrine cells. As a key component of dense-core secretory vesicles, Chromogranin B is essential for storing and transporting peptide hormones and neurotransmitters within neuroendocrine cells. Both Chromogranin B and Chromogranin A are integral to the formation and maturation of these vesicles. In mice deficient in Chromogranin B, the secretion of hormones such as insulin, glucagon, and somatostatin is significantly impaired, yet the synthesis and biogenesis of insulin remain unaffected.
