Target Information
Protein CREG1 plays a role in regulating the transcriptional control of cell growth and differentiation. It counteracts the transcriptional activation and cellular transformation induced by the adenovirus E1A protein. The regulation of cell growth through transcriptional control requires CREG1's interaction with IGF2R. In mice, CREG1 serves numerous critical functions, including supporting skeletal muscle function, regulating metabolism, providing cardiovascular and liver protection, promoting hematopoiesis, combating aging, and facilitating angiogenesis. These functions rely on CREG1's specific mechanisms of action across various tissues, such as the regulation of autophagy, inflammation, cell signaling pathways, and cell differentiation. In aged mice, CREG1 expression levels are linked to age-related metabolic phenotypes and declining renal function. Research indicates that CREG1 overexpression can improve the morphological changes in renal tubules and glomeruli, lower serum creatinine and urea nitrogen levels, and thereby enhance renal function.
