Target Information

CCAAT/enhancer-binding protein alpha (C/EBPα) is a transcription factor that facilitates proliferation arrest and differentiation in myeloid progenitors, adipocytes, hepatocytes, and cells of the lung and placenta. It binds directly to the consensus DNA sequence 5'-T[TG]NNGNAA[TG]-3', acting as an activator for specific target genes. During early embryogenesis, it performs essential and overlapping functions with C/EBPβ. The Cebpa gene is crucial for hematopoietic stem and progenitor cells (HSCs) in mice, and its loss results in granulocytopenia, a reduction in granulocyte progenitor cells in the bone marrow, and abnormal differentiation of hematopoietic stem cells. Under chronic IL-1β stimulation, the absence of Cebpa significantly impacts the differentiation capacity of hematopoietic stem cells, leading to the expansion of myeloid progenitor cells (MPP), while the counts of long-term hematopoietic stem cells (LT-HSCs) and short-term hematopoietic stem cells (ST-HSCs) remain unaffected.
