Target Information
Cationic Amino Acid Transporter 1, also referred to as CAT1 or SLC7A1, is a high-affinity, low-capacity permease that facilitates the transport of cationic amino acids such as arginine, lysine, and ornithine in non-hepatic tissues. It also serves as a receptor for the ecotropic murine retroviral leukemia virus. SLC7A1 is crucial for mouse development, particularly in hematopoiesis and weight regulation. Research has demonstrated that mutations in the SLC7A1 gene can lead to anemia, weight loss, and embryonic death in mice. The expression of SLC7A1 in renal tubules is closely related to the transport of arginine, which is essential for the synthesis of nitric oxide (NO).
