Target Information

Cathepsin Z demonstrates both carboxy-monopeptidase and carboxy-dipeptidase activities, enabling it to produce kinin potentiating peptides. Research indicates that mice lacking Cathepsin Z show a marked decrease in neuroinflammatory responses and IL-1β levels in the experimental autoimmune encephalomyelitis (EAE) model. Additionally, these mice experience significantly reduced demyelination and inflammatory responses in spinal cord tissue following EAE induction. Cathepsin Z (also known as Cathepsin X) primarily functions in mice to regulate neuroinflammation and immune response, particularly in disease models such as multiple sclerosis (MS) and respiratory silicosis.
