Target Information
Cathepsin D is an acid protease involved in the breakdown of intracellular proteins. It contributes to APP processing by being cleaved and activated by ADAM30, leading to APP degradation. In mice, Cathepsin D has diverse roles, such as regulating cell apoptosis, promoting tissue repair, participating in immune regulation, and influencing disease progression. In a DSS-induced colitis model, heightened expression of Cathepsin D was linked to the apoptosis of intestinal epithelial cells and increased inflammation. In studies related to Alzheimer's disease (AD), Cathepsin D has been associated with the C-terminal cleavage of the Tau protein.
