LPP is a vital enzyme that shields other lysosomal enzymes from rapid proteolytic degradation. In various disease models, the malfunction of LPP is linked to multiple pathological conditions. For instance, in a mouse model of glycosaminoglycan storage disease type I, the introduction of hematopoietic progenitor cells overexpressing LPP through bone marrow transplantation can significantly enhance lysosomal function and mitigate the disease symptoms.
