Target Information

Caspase-1 is a thiol protease that participates in various inflammatory processes by cleaving proteins like the precursors of the inflammatory cytokines interleukin-1 beta (IL1B) and interleukin 18 (IL18), as well as the pyroptosis inducer Gasdermin-D (GSDMD), into their active, mature forms. In mouse models, aluminum hydroxide (Alum) activates caspase-1, leading to the maturation of IL-1β and IL-18 and enhancing their pro-inflammatory effects. Additionally, caspase-1 is involved in activating the NLRP3 inflammasome, which is crucial in a range of pathogen infections and metabolic disorders.
