Target Information

Carboxypeptidase N polypeptide 1 protects the body by inactivating potent vasoactive and inflammatory peptides with C-terminal Arg or Lys, such as kinins and anaphylatoxins, released into the circulation. CPN1 is a plasma zinc metalloproteinase known for its anti-inflammatory effects, as it cleaves bioactive peptides like the complement components C3a and C5a, which possess inflammatory activity. Research has demonstrated that the absence of CPN1 in mice increases their susceptibility to lethal anaphylactic shock. This heightened vulnerability is due to their inability to effectively degrade these inflammatory mediators, resulting in acute complement activation.
