Target Information
The voltage-dependent T-type calcium channel subunit alpha-1H is a voltage-sensitive calcium channel responsible for generating T-type calcium currents. These T-type channels belong to the 'low-voltage activated (LVA)' group, characterized by their ability to open at relatively negative potentials and undergo voltage-dependent inactivation. T-type channels are essential for pacemaking in central neurons and cardiac nodal cells, as well as for supporting calcium signaling in secretory cells and vascular smooth muscle. The Cacna1h gene is critical for the development of the cerebral cortex during embryogenesis. Research indicates that Cacna1h is expressed in regions of the mouse embryonic cerebral cortex, such as the SVZ/VZ and CP regions, where it influences cortical development by regulating neural progenitor cell differentiation. Furthermore, knockout of the Cacna1h gene can lead to neuronal migration disorders and abnormal synaptic transmission, potentially associated with epileptic seizures and neurodegenerative diseases.
