Target Information
The voltage-dependent L-type calcium channel subunit alpha-1C is the pore-forming alpha-1C subunit of the voltage-gated calcium channel responsible for generating L-type calcium currents. It facilitates the influx of calcium ions into the cytoplasm, which in turn triggers calcium release from the sarcoplasmic reticulum. In the prefrontal cortex (PFC), specific knockout or loss of function of the Cacna1c gene significantly heightens anxiety-like behaviors in mice. For instance, in the elevated plus maze (EPM) test, PFC-specific Cacna1c knockout mice spend less time exploring the open arms, reflecting an increase in anxiety-like behaviors.
