Target Information

The cytosolic branched-chain-amino-acid aminotransferase catalyzes the initial step in the breakdown of the essential branched-chain amino acids leucine, isoleucine, and valine. BCAT1 plays a crucial role in metabolic reprogramming in mouse macrophages and has a strong connection to inflammatory diseases. By inhibiting BCAT1 activity, the expression of genes related to oxidative stress and inflammation in macrophages can be diminished, leading to a reduced inflammatory response. In mice, inhibiting BCAT1 can significantly suppress the production of IRG1 and succinate using ERG240 (a leucine analog), thereby mitigating the inflammatory response.
