Target Information
Brain Derived Neurotrophic Factor (BDNF) is a crucial signaling molecule that activates pathways downstream of NTRK2. During development, BDNF supports the survival and differentiation of specific neuronal populations in both the peripheral and central nervous systems. It is involved in axonal growth, pathfinding, and the modulation of dendritic growth and morphology. In mice, BDNF has extensive and complex functions, ranging from neurodevelopment to behavioral and metabolic regulation, as well as roles in disease models. Mice lacking BDNF exhibit impaired hippocampal-dependent learning and long-term potentiation (LTP), highlighting BDNF's essential role in synaptic plasticity and memory formation. Additionally, BDNF influences the normal development of the central nervous system (CNS) by regulating neuronal survival and differentiation.
