Target Information

Integrin-binding sialoprotein, also known as Bone Sialoprotein (BSP), binds strongly to hydroxyapatite and is an integral component of the mineralized matrix, likely playing a key role in cell-matrix interactions. It facilitates the adhesion and migration of various cells through the alpha-V/beta-3 integrin receptor (ITGAV:ITGB3). In mice, Bone Sialoprotein is crucial for bone formation and mineralization, potentially working synergistically with osteocalcin to contribute to the formation and mineralization of the bone matrix. BSP is a phosphorylated protein with a high affinity for binding calcium ions in the bone matrix. Research indicates that BSP may enhance the bone formation process, particularly during the early stages of bone mineralization.
