Target Information

Potassium-transporting ATPase alpha chain 1 is the catalytic subunit of the gastric H+/K+ ATPase pump, responsible for exchanging H+ ions for K+ ions across the apical membrane of parietal cells. In mice, the main function of Atp4a is to sustain gastric acid secretion and maintain the normal physiological condition of the gastric mucosa through the H+/K±ATPase α subunit it encodes. Mice deficient in Atp4a exhibit significant pathological changes in the gastric mucosa, including mucocele-like lesions and gastric mucosal metaplasia. These lesions resemble human gastric mucosal diseases, such as hypertrophic gastritis and gastric precancerous lesions, making Atp4a−/− mice valuable as a model for studying these conditions.
