Target Information

In mice, asparagine synthetase (ASNS) plays key roles in amino acid metabolism, tumor treatment, and metabolic regulation. ASNS catalyzes the conversion of aspartate and glutamine into asparagine and glutamate in the liver, a process that requires ATP. Research indicates that reducing ASNS gene expression in the liver can significantly lower plasma glucose levels, suggesting that ASNS may indirectly influence glucose metabolism through its regulation of amino acid metabolism. The expression of ASNS is tightly controlled by amino acid concentrations; when amino acids such as aspartate and glutamine are deficient, the transcription level of the ASNS gene increases significantly.
