Target Information

The aryl hydrocarbon receptor is a ligand-activated transcription factor that allows cells to adapt to shifting conditions by detecting compounds from the environment, diet, microbiome, and cellular metabolism. It plays crucial roles in development, immunity, and cancer. In mice, this receptor is encoded by the Ahr gene. The functions of AhR in mice are extensive and complex, involving immune regulation, toxic response, metabolic regulation, reproductive development, intestinal immunity, tumorigenesis, and cardiovascular system. AhR plays a key role in liver metabolism. AhR-deficient mice show intrahepatic retinoic acid accumulation and reduced retinoic acid metabolism.
