Target Information
The vasopressin V2 receptor serves as a receptor for arginine vasopressin, with its activity being mediated by G proteins that activate adenylate cyclase. It plays a crucial role in renal water reabsorption. In mice, the primary function of the vasopressin V2 receptor is to regulate renal water and salt balance, but it also contributes to other physiological and pathological processes. By activating adenylate cyclase, the V2 receptor increases the production of cyclic adenosine monophosphate (cAMP), which in turn promotes the expression and reabsorption of the water channel protein aquaporin-2, leading to an antidiuretic effect. This mechanism is well-researched and established in both mice and other mammals. In the context of polycystic kidney disease (PKD), the activation of V2R or the use of its antagonists can significantly influence the disease's progression.
