Target Information
The vasopressin V1b receptor is a receptor for arginine vasopressin, and its activity is facilitated by G proteins that activate a phosphatidyl-inositol-calcium second messenger system. Research has shown that mice lacking the Avpr1b receptor exhibit significant deficits in social aggression, including decreased social motivation and reduced aggressive behavior. Despite these changes, these mice maintain normal defensive escape behaviors, such as hiding and flight. Moreover, re-expressing Avpr1b in deficient mice can restore their aggressive behavior, highlighting Avpr1b's key role in social aggression. Interestingly, the absence of Avpr1b has minimal impact on maternal aggression but does reduce maternal behaviors in mother mice.
