Target Information
DNA repair nuclease/redox regulator APEX1 is a multifunctional protein crucial for the cellular response to oxidative stress. APEX1 primarily performs DNA repair and redox regulation of transcriptional factors. It acts as an apurinic/apyrimidinic (AP) endodeoxyribonuclease in the base excision repair (BER) pathway, addressing DNA lesions caused by oxidative and alkylating agents. In mice, Apex1 (Apurinic/Apyrimidinic Endonuclease 1) functions in DNA repair, regulation of oxidative stress, and management of cell senescence and premature aging characteristics. Apex1 also plays an important role in hematopoietic stem and progenitor cells (HSPCs) in adult mice, and its loss leads to severe hematopoietic failure and expansion defects.
