Target Information
Apolipoprotein B (apo-B) exists in two forms in mammals: apo-B100, produced in the liver and yolk sac, and apo-B48, a truncated version synthesized in the intestine. Apo-B100 is a protein that facilitates cholesterol transport throughout the body and is a component of low-density lipoprotein (LDL). The function of Apo-B in mice is mainly reflected in its regulation of lipid metabolism, assembly of lipoprotein structures, and development of cardiovascular diseases. Mice models that exclusively express either apo-B48 or apo-B100 are valuable for experiments aimed at understanding the distinct roles of these two forms in mammalian metabolism.
