Target Information
In mice, the antidiuretic hormone (ADH) plays crucial roles in regulating water-salt balance, maintaining blood pressure, and influencing neurobehavior. Its primary physiological effect is to decrease urine volume by enhancing water reabsorption in the renal tubules, thereby preserving the body's water and electrolyte balance. ADH facilitates the reabsorption of sodium ions and water and reduces urine production by acting on the V1a and V2 receptors located in the distal tubules and collecting ducts of the kidneys. Beyond its physiological roles, ADH is also involved in neurobehavioral functions and sleep regulation. Research indicates that ADH expression in the hypothalamic suprachiasmatic nucleus (SCN) is intricately linked to circadian rhythms and sleep patterns. Mice lacking ADH show disruptions in their circadian rhythms and suffer from memory impairments.
