Target Information

Rat Matrix Metalloproteinase 2 (MMP2), also known as gelatinase A, is a zinc-dependent endopeptidase involved in the degradation of extracellular matrix components. It plays a critical role in breaking down gelatin and collagen types IV and V, which are essential for basement membrane remodeling. MMP2 is synthesized as a proenzyme and activated through proteolytic cleavage. In rat models, MMP2 is implicated in various physiological processes such as tissue morphogenesis, angiogenesis, and wound healing, as well as in pathological conditions like cancer invasion and metastasis.
