Rat Ionized Calcium-Binding Adapter Molecule 1 (IBA1) is an EF-hand Ca2+-binding protein selectively expressed in microglia and macrophages. It localizes to the cytoskeleton and membrane ruffles, regulating actin dynamics during cell migration and phagocytosis. IBA1 serves as a reliable marker for identifying and quantifying microglia throughout the central nervous system. As a key indicator of innate immune activation, it is an important target for studies of neuroinflammation, injury, and disease.
