Target Information
Rat cluster of differentiation 163 (CD163) is a 130-kDa transmembrane scavenger glycoprotein specifically expressed on rat monocytes, macrophages, and tissue-resident subsets (Kupffer cells, alveolar macrophages). It functions as the primary receptor for hemoglobin-haptoglobin (Hb-Hp) complexes, mediating heme iron internalization and detoxification to prevent oxidative stress. As an anti-inflammatory modulator, it suppresses pro-inflammatory cytokine release and promotes tissue repair pathways. It also facilitates pathogen recognition and clearance in rat immune responses. Critical for iron metabolism, immune homeostasis, and tissue protection, its dysregulation associates with inflammatory disorders and infectious pathologies. As a macrophage-specific marker and functional mediator, rat CD163 is a key target for studying immunology, inflammatory diseases, and macrophage-related therapies.
