Target Information

Rat Ceruloplasmin is a multifunctional copper-binding glycoprotein primarily synthesized in the liver. It is the main transporter of copper in plasma and plays a key role in iron metabolism by oxidizing Fe(2+) to Fe(3+), facilitating its binding to transferrin. Ceruloplasmin also has ferroxidase activity, which helps in the removal of toxic ferrous ions and supports the incorporation of iron into transferrin. Additionally, it exhibits glutathione peroxidase-like activity, contributing to the detoxification of hydrogen peroxide and lipid hydroperoxides.
