Target Information

Alpha-tocopherol transfer protein binds to alpha-tocopherol, facilitating its transfer between membranes and promoting its release from liver cells. This protein can bind to both phosphatidylinositol 3,4-bisphosphate and phosphatidylinositol 4,5-bisphosphate, inducing a conformational change crucial for the release of bound alpha-tocopherol. In alpha-TTP knockout mice (Ttpa-/-), there is a severe deficiency of vitamin E, particularly in the brain, liver, and other peripheral tissues. This deficiency can lead to various physiological issues, including neurodegenerative diseases and reproductive disorders. α-TTP-deficient mice exhibit severe α-tocopherol deficiency in multiple brain regions, which is closely associated with neurological dysfunction.
