Target Information
Activity-regulated cytoskeleton-associated protein (Arc) is a pivotal regulator of synaptic plasticity, capable of self-assembling into virion-like capsids to encapsulate RNA and facilitate intercellular RNA transfer within the nervous system. In mice, Arc is involved in neuroplasticity, behavioral regulation, memory and learning, and disease relevance. It significantly influences nervous system function and behavior by regulating gene expression, synaptic plasticity, and neuronal signaling. In the ventral striatum of adult mice, Arc modulates cocaine-related behaviors in a cell type- and sex-specific manner, indicating a potential regulatory role in drug addiction behavior. Additionally, Arc-deficient mice exhibit social preference deficits, likely linked to Arc's role in regulating social behavior in the ventral striatum.
