Target Information

Tartrate-resistant acid phosphatase type 5 (TRAP5) is believed to play a role in bone resorption. This osteoclastic enzyme exhibits a higher affinity for nucleotide tri- and diphosphates compared to other substrates. In mice, TRAP5 is primarily involved in bone resorption, immune response, and intracellular signal transduction. Studies on TRAP5 knockout mice have shown increased bone mineralization density, highlighting TRAP5's critical role in maintaining normal bone mineralization and homeostasis. TRAP5 features an iron ion dimer structure, with its active center containing iron ions capable of reacting with hydrogen peroxide to produce reactive oxygen species (ROS) with strong oxidative properties.
