Target Information
Lysosomal acid phosphatase, also referred to as Acid Phosphatase 2, Lysosomal, plays a role intricately linked to lysosomal function in mice. Lysosomes are vital cellular organelles responsible for degrading and recycling macromolecules, relying on various acid hydrolases, including acid phosphatase (LAP), to carry out their functions. Acid phosphatase helps maintain normal lysosomal function by removing recognition signals, such as mannose-6-phosphate markers, from substrates. In mice, knocking out the Acp2 gene results in mild phenotypes, including widespread lysosomal storage diseases in the central nervous system and kidneys. Furthermore, defects in acid phosphatase may impact the autophagy process, as autophagy relies on properly functioning lysosomes.
