Target Information
5'-AMP-activated protein kinase subunit gamma-2 is an AMP/ATP-binding component of AMP-activated protein kinase (AMPK), a crucial energy sensor kinase involved in regulating cellular energy metabolism. In mice, the PRKAG2 subunit primarily influences AMPK regulation, especially within cardiac tissue. As one of AMPK's regulatory subunits, mutations in PRKAG2 can result in various heart conditions, including myocardial hypertrophy, abnormal cardiac conduction (such as preexcitation syndrome), and glycogen accumulation. Mouse models with PRKAG2 mutations (e.g., N488I, R302Q, H530R) display symptoms akin to PRKAG2 syndrome found in humans.
