Target Information

Metolcarb is a medium-toxicity carbamate insecticide and acaricide used primarily to control pests like leafhoppers and planthoppers in agricultural crops. Its relevance to animal-derived food safety stems from potential dietary carryover into the livestock supply chain. When animals consume feed, straw, or grains containing metolcarb residues, or experience environmental exposure in surrounding areas, the chemical can transfer into animal tissues, milk, and eggs. Because it acts as an acetylcholinesterase inhibitor that can cause neurotoxic and systemic health hazards in humans, regulatory agencies mandate strict monitoring and enforce Maximum Residue Limits (MRLs) for metolcarb in animal-derived commodities.
