Target Information

Metalaxyl is a systemic, benzenoid fungicide widely used in agriculture to control diseases caused by Oomycete fungi (such as downy mildew and root rots) in a variety of crops, including grains, fodder, and oilseeds. Livestock can be exposed to metalaxyl through the ingestion of treated forage, silage, or crop processing byproducts. Once ingested, metalaxyl is rapidly metabolized and excreted, but residues of the parent compound and its metabolites can transiently partition into animal tissues (especially the liver and kidneys), milk, and eggs. Because excessive exposure can cause hepatotoxicity and metabolic disruption, international food safety authorities establish strict Maximum Residue Limits for metalaxyl in animal-derived foods to protect consumers.
