Target Information
Malachite Green (MG) is a synthetic dye that was widely used in aquaculture to treat fungal infections and parasites in fish. Its use in food-producing animals is banned in many countries, including the United States, China, and the European Union, because of significant health concerns. Malachite Green is known to be toxic, and studies have shown it to be a potential carcinogen and mutagen. It is rapidly metabolized in the animal's body into a more stable and persistent compound called Leuco Malachite Green (LMG), which can accumulate in the fatty tissues of fish and other aquatic products. Both compounds pose a serious risk to human health upon consumption.
