Hamster Kidney Fibroblast Cell Line-BHK-21 is an adherent, fibroblast-like cell line derived from the kidney tissue of neonatal Syrian hamsters. They can be continuously passaged. The BHK-21 cell line can be used for the proliferation and purification of various viruses, such as Foot-and-mouth disease virus (FMDV), Encephalomyocarditis virus (EMCV), Reovirus, and Vesicular stomatitis virus (VSV). Currently, the BHK-21 cell line is widely used in the production of foot-and-mouth disease vaccines.
