Target Information
Cathepsin B, a member of the cysteine cathepsin family of lysosomal cysteine proteases, is important for intracellular protein breakdown. Prior studies have shown that it induces secretory cell hyperplasia in hamsters. Cathepsin B in hamsters is a lysosomal cysteine protease critical for intracellular protein degradation and turnover, particularly in maintaining cellular homeostasis by breaking down extracellular matrix components. In Chinese hamster V79 cells, it influences DNA repair processes post-irradiation, affecting survival and mutation rates. While direct hamster studies are limited, conserved functions include pro-enzyme activation (e.g., thyroid hormones), autophagy regulation, and modulation of lysosomal biogenesis.
