Target Information
Insulin-like growth factor 1 (IGF-1), also known as somatomedin C, is a hormone structurally similar to insulin that plays a significant role in promoting growth during childhood and has anabolic effects in adults. It is mainly produced by the liver. IGF-1 has neuroprotective effects, promoting the survival and function of neurons. IGF-1 is important in the study of lung development, and repair after damage. IGF-1 levels are often measured during nutritional studies. Research has indicated that treating the placenta with IGF-1 via nanoparticles can differentially affect vascular remodeling factors in the sub-placenta/decidua of guinea pigs.
