Target Information

Rabbit aquaporin 1 (AQP1) is a transmembrane channel protein of the major intrinsic protein family, a core mediator of rapid water transport across cell membranes. It features six conserved hydrophobic transmembrane domains, two asparagine-proline-alanine motifs critical for pore formation, and cytoplasmic N- and C-terminal regions for structural stability. It localizes predominantly to the plasma membrane of rabbit erythrocytes, renal proximal tubule cells and vascular endothelial cells, with negligible expression in water-impermeable cell types. The protein mediates osmotic water flux via its homotetrameric configuration, with conserved structural motifs differentiating it from AQP2 and AQP4 isoforms.
