Group A β-hemolytic Streptococcus (GABHS) is the leading bacterial culprit behind tonsillopharyngitis. Besides this, it can also lead to acute otitis media, pneumonia, and infections of the skin and soft tissues. It is associated with cardiovascular, musculoskeletal, lymphatic infections, bacteremia, and meningitis as well. Streptococcus pyogenes stands out as one of the most prevalent beta-hemolytic group A streptococci affecting humans.
